There's no playbook for 2020: 3 ways to help yourself and your clients during COVID-19

COVID-19 payroll

It’s quite a unique time we’re living in. As we collectively wrestle with what this global pandemic means for us — as humans first, but also as professionals — there are often more questions than answers. There is no playbook for years like 2020. But instead of getting overwhelmed amid the changes, there’s also opportunity.

Location location location

It doesn’t really matter where you are in the world, we’re all in this together. But each country, and sometimes each region is different. If your clients are spread across the country, understanding the context of each region is particularly important. Be mindful in ignoring what’s going on and trying to sell. Instead evaluate how you can help your clients in the most impactful way.

Question: Do my clients have manual processes that could be done quickly?

Pay close attention, regularly

The only stability right now is change. What was planned out two weeks ago might not necessarily be the best plan now. Consider the speed at which changes are happening, and adjust your plans. For instance, a humorous acquisition campaign might not be the most tactful approach right now, nor an aggressive campaign to get existing clients to spend more.

Question: Have I reviewed the work from X weeks ago to ensure it’s still appropriate?

Changing priorities

As professionals, a lot of us like to be planned. Now we’re in a time where planning isn’t as easy to do. Now is the time to think about how to add greater value to your clients and be ‘helpful’ rather than a burden. Think of how you can make their lives easier. Can you use your bureau to help promote your clients businesses?

Question: How can I help my clients with their own businesses?

KeyPay is trying to make its customers' lives as easy as possible during COVID-19, which is why we've created a COVID-19 coverage and response hub, covering legislative changes and managing COVID-10 related payroll processes in KeyPay, for Australia, the UK and New Zealand.
