Group 3 modern award pay rates have now been increased
As of 1 November 2021, KeyPay has now updated Group 3 modern award pay rates in our software. This update is in line with the Fair Work Commission’s decision to increase the national minimum wage and awards by 2.5%.
What’s been happening?
If you’ve been following the Fair Work Commission’s annual wage review, a 2.5% increase to the national minimum wage and awards was announced on 16 June 2021. This increase applied from the first full pay period starting on or after this date, rising to $20.33 per hour (or $772.60 per week).
The increase applies to anyone who is paid minimum award wages or the national minimum wage, but doesn’t affect employees who already get paid more than their new minimum wage.
Which awards have been updated?
Under Group 3, 21 awards increased from the first full pay period on or after 1 November 2021. The below awards that are managed in KeyPay have now been updated:
- Amusement, Events and Recreation Award 2020
- Fitness Industry Award 2020
- Hair and Beauty Industry Award 2010
- Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020
- Live Performance Award 2020
- Racing Clubs Events Award 2020
- Racing Industry Ground Maintenance Award 2020
- Registered and Licensed Clubs Award 2020
- Restaurant Industry Award 2020
- Wine Industry Award 2020

But what about Group 1 and 2 awards?
No need to worry; these awards were already updated in KeyPay in time for the respective increase dates of 1 July 2021 and 1 September 2021 (you can find details from Fair Work on which awards fall under Groups 1 and 2). Enjoy peace of mind, knowing that KeyPay always handles legislation changes for you and your clients. Compliance has never been easier!
What do I need to do now?
The short answer - nothing! As always, KeyPay is on top of the Fair Work Commission’s changes, so the Group 3 award pay rates were updated in our software on 1 November 2021. As an accountant, bookkeeper or payroll bureau, if you or your clients have employees that fall under any of the above awards, you or your clients will need to apply the updates from the business dashboard notification after the last pay run using the old rates is completed. Employees will then automatically have the new pay rates applied and you and your clients can begin using them in the next pay run.
If you don’t use KeyPay, you and your clients will need to extensively review employees’ agreements and awards. You and your clients will also need to increase their wages in line with the minimum wage rates set out by the FWC, according to the modern award that they fall under.
